  • Guess what? We canines are smart and energetic beings that love to see new things and have fun. Whether you are the type of annoying biped that likes to ditch his dog in a crate all day or the type that likes to leave your so called beloved friend in a dog run outside for the majority of their lives, shame on you! How would you like it if I locked YOU in a cage for hours on end and completely ignored you?
Doesn’t sound like much fun does it? Stop ignoring your furry friend! Bored dogs get into trouble. Period. So what do you humans usually do to offset this boredom? You yell at us or punish us for getting into trouble. What on earth is that going to fix? All that leads to is a bored and pissed off dog!

So, here are the 5 most common things I like to do to show that I am completely and hopelessly bored!

    1. I will CHEW on absolutely everything he can get his paws on.

Especially things I think will get your attention. Why? Because I WANT your attention! Are you really so dense that I have to tell you this? Oh well… humans… So next time your favorite pair of Manolos ends up looking like something a cat puked up think about why your canine companion chose to make your favorite shoes into litter box liner.

    2. I will SCREAM and YELL.
Even if your dog doesn’t do it I know you have heard it. You have even probably complained about it. That damn neighbor dog barking all day everyday! It drives everyone nuts. Well, wouldn’t you yell too? Some brainless humanoid sticks you in a cage all day so the only thing you can do is scream for help!

    Your garden? No... MY GARDEN!

    3. I DIG.
Digging is fun! Trust me. When I am bored the first thing I like to do is dig. The cold earth between my toes. The chance of finding something fun. The opportunity to drive my human nuts by making a mess of his yard. Digging is a great pass-time that allows me to accomplish all sorts of things at once.

    4. I will get IN THE WAY.
Ever notice how much harder chores are when you have a brilliant and energetic canine causing problems every step of the way? Do you think I am just doing this because it is fun? Well… maybe… irritating humans is awfully fun! No, I do it because I want some attention, you have been ignoring me ALL day. Cut it out and give your pooch some attention.

    5. I makes MESSES!
You have all experienced it at some point or another. Whether it was a tub of flour or a bag of coconut. At some point in your relationship your pooch decided to spread some powdery or wet substance all around your house. Really anything that makes a big mess is sure to get your attention. Have I ever told you the story of what I can do with a roll of toilet paper?

Teach you to not pay attention to me!

    Conclusion

Anyway to wrap things up. Dogs don’t like to be bored. Especially younger ones. If you happen to be careless enough to make us bored for long periods of time we find ways to stop being bored. The best way to do this is to think of interesting ways to make our human think twice about letting us reach boredom again! Wow! Did you ever think it would be this easy to solve all these dog related problems all in one?
